Network Storage (NAS Storage)

These are basically external hard drives (up to 1000 gigabytes!) which connect over your home network. They are generally used to store media files, work files and of course backups with easy access for all computers on the network.

If important data is to be stored, they can be set up with 'RAID1' (mirrored) which basically writes identical files to 2 drives. This ensures that if a Disk fails, the data is still safe
(the faulty drive can be replaced without losing data)

NAS units vary in price, depending on capacity,
but are generally £100-£300
and cost £30 to install on your network.
